Hm. I like that look, but my concern in that particular room is that with the ratio of actual wall space vs. all the vertical things already happening in the room (many doors, big windows, the 1/2 wall and shelves by front door, fireplace), a vertical pattern might make the room look smaller. Especially if the one color was a lot darker than the other. But I'm not sure. If the green and gold were about the same darkness, it could work, but I think a softer, more diffuse pattern would open up your wall space more. MO.
Now, if you were to do the stripy bits in the dining room (er, what used to be the dining room), I think it would be very cool.
