Ouch. Cars cost money.
May. 28th, 2003 11:44 amSo, I just missed the call from the nice mechanic type person at Bobby & Steve's, when I got in this morning. Called him back, and it will cost about 2K to get Aleister fixed. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Suspension work, the air compressor's gone (the source of that high-pitched scraping whine), there's a leak in the transmission, and a leak in the intake manifold (at least I think that's what he said) that's dripping coolant on the engine. I knew about the leaks, although not where they were. Now I have spare coolant that I suppose I can send along with Mikey when he gets the oil changed on the Subaru--it's low-tox coolant, which is not something that your average Jiffy Lube stocks as a regular item.
I could buy another car for 2K. But, I suppose getting this one fixed is like buying one that already works, anyway. So, he should be done tomorrow night, and I will have my pod back. At 16 mpg straight highway, Amanda is not exactly what you'd call fuel-efficient, and she's just not awfully nimble, which is a drawback when one is commuting.
