Wheee!

Ah, but last night was nifty. My birthday present from my darling husband was a pair of tickets to the Minnesota Orchestra/Flying Karamazov Brothers show. Tres keen. [livejournal.com profile] caoilfhionn and I had dinner beforehand at Brit's Pub, which is conveniently right across the street from Orchestra Hall. And it was lovely and warm and we could eat outside and have beer and nifty cheese, which was extremely tasty even though some of it was green.

The show was cool. They're experimenting with juggling in combination with music, which led to a piece in 11/8 time that included the marimba, the trombone, and juggling pins (which are pins unless one hits you in the face, in which case then it's a club), Quartet for Lacrosse Balls and 8-Foot Table, and some really nifty impromptu juggling. It being Friday, and having not adequately recovered from being awakened Thursday at 3 A.M. by plummeting hair care products, I did not join people in their sojourn at the Local, but went home and went to bed. And slept until noon. Well, actually I woke up at 7:30-ish because I am conditioned to wake up around then, took drugs, and then went back to bed until noon. And I did relocate the yogurt (started Thursday night) from the oven into the fridge before I became unconscious.

And now I am running a load of dishes and contemplating working on the notes for my period cooking class that I am teaching in a couple of weeks. It is very dark and grey today--it's not light enough for me to complain about the light hurting my eyes--and I haven't even poked my nose out yet to see what the weather's like. At some point, probably later in the afternoon, I have to take the Irish car in for a tune-up and have them see if they can figure out the reason for the smell of gas when he's running. I should do laundry, I should work on straightening up the living room, I should do a lot of things. I did finally come up with an idea that will give me back a counter or so in the kitchen, so that will have to be implemented. I think.

Kitties are sleeping, one on the couch, one in the tree, one in the basket in the hall. I'm actually awake, just lazy. I have managed to do a little bit of stuff reduction this week, but it still needs a lot of work. Mostly because we have too much stuff. I think I will have to contemplate tickets as presents more often--they don't take up nearly the space that, say, an ice-cream freezer does. Oh, that's the other reason I need counter space--the parent sent us $$ for Valentine's Day, and it was enough to buy me an ice-cream freezer (but they didn't have extra bowls around that I could see) and a replacement tea mug to replace my green stoneware one that is starting to eminate ominous sounds from the vicinity of the handle/body joins. I love my mug, thus, it is now up on the top shelf in the cabinet and I have two replacements that I wish I could mate together to produce the perfect tea mug. One has the optimal shape, but is white and the handle is very thin, while the other is a lovely shade of antique-y dark powder blue, has a lovely design theme and a suitably butch handle, but isn't quite the perfect shape. Ah, well. I suppose we can't all be the perfect tea mug.
