Ugh.

I spent today running errands, starting with the farmer's market, then up to Metro State to get my ID, then home for kitty time, then to Sears to drop off the vacuum, then to Target, then to JoAnn in the quest for living room curtains where I obtained fabric for Annex curtains but not living room curtains, then to Pier One in the quest for annex rugs where I acquired stinky stuff in spray canisters, and then to Foam Teapot on the spur of the moment for paint samples. And now I am home. And I am very tired, and bed will happen soon.

I am going to paint the Annex purple. I have wanted to paint my bedroom purple since I was about ten, but my mother did not believe in painting walls. Apparently in her universe you put wallpaper on walls and paint on woodwork and ceilings. So when I was twelve, we started looking for appropriately purple-and-white wallpaper. With tastefully small flowers. My room didn't get papered until I was fourteen. And some people seem to think that bedrooms oughtn't to be painted dark purple, but I say that there's no point in glow-in-the-dark stars on a white ceiling. And it's not like one does much in the bedroom where one is noticing the color of the walls anyway.

So anyway, we have this Annex, which was used as an office by the previous owner, and which I have now designated as the guest bedroom, since the wicked stepdaughter moved out of it. Those who have been in our basement know that it is fairly dark, with pine panelling and nasty dark asbestos floor tile. So I am going to paint it. The panelling in the Annex is the cheap fake wood stuff (Mikey's space has actual tounge-and-groove knotty pine, made out of actual wood) and its only purpose in life is to cover the walls so the cinder block doesn't show. Therefore, I have decided that it needs desperately to be painted. The ceiling is already white. The icky carpet went away last weekend. I will replace it with more carpet if I can find a lovely dark purple carpet for a reasonable price. This is not probable. If I can't find purple carpet, then I guess I'm stuck with area rugs, or I suppose I could paint the floor. I'd still have to go with area rugs if I did paint the floor, though, so that's not high on the list of priorities.

Walls. I have options here. I can just paint the panelling all one color, I can paint the panelling and then do the grooves in a different color, or I can use the panels as a guide to do randomly-sized stripes, or I can spackle over the grooves to get smooth walls and then paint. Spackling is the most work. I am not inclined to do any more work than I have to, but stripes would be cool. Light lavender walls with dark purple stripes, perhaps. Yes, stripes. And then the question remains--pinstripes using the grooves in the panelling, or "panel-width" stripes? Hmmmm.

I did get at Target a round paper lantern lampshade thingy that hangs (it's purple), and the cord to hang it with (which is also purple), for in the middle of the Annex. There's this handy plant hook which was probably intended for hanging a lamp from in the first place. It's neat. My mother would have kittens. Also the cat has knocked the mouse (the Logitech trackball-y sort of mouse/trackball thing) onto the floor, and the ball has rolled off across the floor far away where I can't get it. And the cat is very large, and very heavy and very comfy on my lap. I am balancing the keyboard on top of her at the moment.

So. Painting. I have lots of paint chips in various shades of purples to contemplate. I also have to contemplate floor coverings to some extent, because the plain tile floor is cold and inhospitable, not to mention ugly. I considered getting those grass tile things that one can obtain at Cost Plus and Pier One, and I haven't completely ruled them out (yes, the area rugs will go on top of them). It will be an eclectic room. :-)

Koshka really doesn't seem to mind a keyboard on top of her. Weird cat.

Bed now. Really really. I think it will be panel-width stripes, because that's niftier than the pinstripes, and I am way too lazy to spackle the whole damn room. And no, there will not be GITD stars on the Annex ceiling, because it is textured and they won't stick very well. OTOH, there is, in the house somewhere, a quart of GITD interior latex enamel. Heh.

I am also not entirely sure what I think about the Prius, so far. The backup beep is fucking annoying, that much I've figured out, and the wheel can be positioned such that my wrists are straight (which is always a good thing). Other than that, I have no strong opinions one way or t'other yet.

Ah. Cat left. Recovered the trackball ball. Yay!!!

Bedtime.
