The planning of evil...
Feb. 3rd, 2005 12:03 pmIn the planning of the Evil, I have run into some questions that I would ordinarily never have to worry about.
Do I go for girl clothes or boy clothes? [Here Mikey piped up with "You can't wear boy clothes, you don't look like a boy!" and I retort "Gwyneth wears 15th c. drag, and she looks really good in it. So nyah."] Because if I go for girl clothes, I have to buy enough fabric (at least six yards, possibly eight) for a full-length GFD (Gothic Fitted Dress) and also a full-length houppelande. But if I go with drag, I can go with shorter stuff (and thus less fabric). OTOH, I would then need proper hosen and all that sort of thing. So it's not any less work, it's just less fabric for one particular garment, and a larger quantity of clothes I wouldn't wear often, if at all ever again.
It also occurs to me that although the GFD must be a specific pattern and color, the houp has no such requirements. Well, except that it be huge. Think Devonshire Hunting Tapestries--big, full, dags, etc. And a silly hat.
So I am not locked into a particular color for the houp. I just need to figure out how much and what type fabric I'll need. Probably lots. And an able assistant to fit the GFD, because there is no good way to fit one of those things on oneself.
Pondering.....
