Mints! Now with more soapy goodness!
Feb. 1st, 2006 10:35 amTo elucidate on earlier comments...
On Saturday we had a late lunch, so then instead of dinner we (being myself, Sibling, Parent, and Parent's Girlfriend) went to Petersen's for ice cream. Which is really the only real reason to go to Petersen's. If you look at their ice cream menu, there are photos. That's how things are served--hot fudge, pecans, etc. are all separate. And their hot fudge is one of the few kinds I'll happily eat.
I had a hot fudge turtle sundae, with sliced bananas. And a black cherry phosphate. I'd forgotten how they make phosphates--what I got was soda water with burgundy cherry topping in it (a perfectly legit method of making a phosphate). Which meant that the lower fifth of the glass was pieces of cherries. Yummy--but hard to suck through a straw, even for me.
Anyway. Up at the register they have trays of various sorts of gum and mints and such, and a purple package caught my eye. It claimed to be Violet flavored "mints" (I hesitate to actually call them that, since there was no actual mint anywhere about them, but that's what the package said). They did indeed smell strongly of violet. So I bought a package just to see what they were like. Square, to start with, and about 1/8" thick or maybe a bit less. Sibling commented that it reminded her of soap. I had to agree with her. Sucked on it for a while, and then she asked if I'd chewed mine yet. I said no. She said not to. At this point the candy still reminded me of very sweet violet-scented soap, so I spit it out the car window. Gave the rest of the package to the Sibling so she could show people at the bar she frequents.
So yeah, soap. Blech.
