Why do orange-flavored candies have to taste like St. Joseph's children's aspirin?

[Ed. The candy in question was the orange variety of Skittle, although the orange variety of a number of other things including Starburst also tastes like children's aspirin.]

I've a friend who *likes* the taste. And was once served an alcoholic beverage tasting of same. The only alcoholic beverage she ever liked, so this factoid stuck with me.
