Quest was, well, Quest. If you haven't been there, I hesitate to describe it to you.
Some observations from the weekend:
6 dozen Welsh Cakes (essentially Digby's Excellent Small Cakes, rolled flat) are Not Nearly Enough, at least not for that crowd.
Do not be drinking anything while HRM Outlands is talking. Really. Trust me on this one.
Period shoes and hillsides make for unhappy leg muscles. They're no longer arguing secession, but they're still not overly happy about it. OTOH, I remained vertical and did not sprain or even twist either ankle.
I am not missing another Quest. Period. I don't care who gets married.
Being the Emergency Backup Edwin is a lot of fun, although somewhat strenuous at times.
"Beer" is a warning label.
"Welcome to Northshield. Here, have something to eat." Alternate wordings include "Welcome to Northshield. Have you eaten yet?", and "Welcome to Northshield. Are you sure you aren't hungry?"
The people in our cabin, including those who actually slept next door but were on the meal plan: One Queen. Two Kings. Four Knights. One Countess. Two Counts. Two Viscounts. Three Viscountesses. Seven Laurels. Seven Pelicans. Seven (quite possibly eight) Baron/esses of the Court. Six Pyxies. At least five former or current members of Stallari. At least seven members of the Northshield Scribal College.
I *heart* my veil pins. And I need a new knife sheath. [Not that this is *news*, mind you, I'm just saying it out loud in the hopes I'll remember it.]
Quest is an inter-kingdom event. It is a war between us and the Outlands. So who won? The waterbearers. No, really. Tarrach challenged Hoegaarden to single combat for the war point, and was "clobbered like a seal pup". But in court, Hoegaarden awarded the war point to the waterbearers. Then Tarrach awarded the rapier point to the waterbearers. Then Fina awarded the A&S "incident point" to the waterbearers, and the children's point (they had ribbons to give to children who were being helpful and useful and nifty things like that), well, the girl who won that got her ribbons for waterbearing.

Date: 2005-05-23 07:05 pm (UTC)Somehow in rural, Southern culture, food is always the first thought of neighbors when there is trouble. That is something they can do and not feel uncomfortable. It is something they do not have to explain or discuss or feel self-conscious about....It means, "I love you. And I am sorry for what your are going through and I will share as much of your burden as I can." And maybe potato salad is a better way of saying it. --W.D. Campbell
