Recycling is dealt with. A mail-sorting solution has been implemented. Mail has been sorted. C&I stuff has been transferred to a rolling cart thingy. Cart thingy for the laundry has been put together and set in place. Empty bottles of laundry soap have been collected and will be taken out to the garbage presently. A better solution to the shoe/door problem has been found, and put into place. Cats have been petted.

And I experimented with chick-pea flour and made pancakes. They are...ok. Not offensive, and actually quite filling. I can see where they would be much tastier with, say, real maple syrup, but they're ok with the strawberry, banana, and coconut syrups that I tried. And butter, of course. Must have real butter. I can also see that they would make nifty griddle bread thingys for consumption along with Indian food. There's a chick-pea pancake recipe in both of my Indian cookbooks, not really surprising since they were written by the same person, but they're different recipes. I checked. There are also a bunch of other bread recipes in the vegetarian cookbook that use things like black-eyed peas, mung dal, etc. I'm not going vegetarian, but having options for bread and bread-like substances that can be eaten without massively causing havoc with my diet are good things.

Speaking of being vegivore or not, I have something like five pounds of soy flour and a couple boxes of soy milk that need new homes. I have enough trouble keeping my brain chemistry at a balanced level that I don't need to go screwing it up by adding the phytoestrogens in soy to the mix. I can't really throw them out--there's too much, and that's just a waste. So, they're free for the taking to anyone who might want them.

Back to the cleaning thing, there's still a lot that needs to be done. But I can see bits of table now, so at least there's been something like progress. Yay progress!

For the love of mercy, if you have found a better shoe/door solution, share it! Oh, please, tell me what you do!!! I have a shoe colony by the door and it's threatening to secede from the household and demand separate voting rights.

First I took all the recycling out to the bin. Then I got a rag rug to match the ones I've already got covering the entryway, and put it on the empty spot. Then I got one of those flake-board stacking units, 24" long by ~8" deep and with two shelves. The top shelf needs something absorbent on it, but other than that it seems to be working pretty well. The slippers and low shoes are on the second shelf, and then new stuff goes on the bottom or on the top (hence the comment about something absorbent). This being winter, I'm pretty limited to one pair of boots, my sneakers, and my two sets of clogs (one indoor, one outdoor). Michael doesn't have house slippers, and Sarah tends to keep her slippers down in the basement.

I'd be curious about the flower honestly.

Say, would you be up for going in on a spice purchace from an online merchant? They requite $30 minimum, but their prices are rediculously good. I can get a pound of fenugreek for like, $1.75.

I s'pose. Do they have grains of paradise? I'm running a bit low on those, and I think I am almost out of cumin. I *know* I'm almost out of ginger.

How would chick pea flour work in shortbread? Would Splenda still taste like sugar after it's baked?

Are you going for low-carb or gluten-free? If the latter, I'd go with a rice flour or a potato flour or something along those lines (as I happen to know that rice-flour shortbread is pretty edible). Splenda is supposed to not degrade with heat, certainly the custard/ricotta pie stuff I made was pretty edible after being baked, if a trifle sweet--my "sweet" threshhold is a bit lower than usual, so I have to remember that I have to reduce the sugar amount and then reduce the Splenda amount a bit more than that, so that the end result isn't too sweet.

Yeah, I know, I'm weird.
