Weekendy things

My weekend actually started Friday, because I'd taken the day off so I could sleep in. This, as it turned out, was a good idea.
So I slept in, but not nearly as long as I was hoping, because the striped cat of evil kept poking me in the head. I packed. I ran a few errands. I spent a happy hour or so sitting on the steps in the sun, shredding bark off of birch twigs. Dyestuffs. No, really. I did not do dishes, although I probably should have. When I came back from running errands, the UPS fairies had been, and my package of dyestuffs was waiting for me. Yay!
The event was smallish, but nifty. I think half of it was Northshielders, too. I hope the Crown of Calontir noticed that. My class was 7 people, at least 6 of which are Northshielders, at least 5 of which are Rokeclif. Well, one is now Jara, but only very recently. Weird.
The University of Dubuque is a Presbyterian school, the campus is fairly small but pretty. Alas, there was a Bush/Cheney rally going on, else we might have been less spread-out. As it was, my class went well, there were no other classes that I wanted to take, which freed me to go watch the tourney. Calontir is as lazy as we are, the fighting didn't actually start until noon, two hours late. We crashed early (like, my normal bedtime, or thereabouts) and were on the road by 10am. But we stopped for lunch, plus it was raining during some of the drive, and quite windy, so we didn't get home until 4.
This weekend is free, so I'm doing projecty stuff. Cake-oid, mostly, a bit of garb so I have something to wear next weekend. The sleeves are now attached, they need to be hemmed and the shoulders need to be tweaked (my shoulders slope, so straight-cut stuff looks odd on me), and the bottom needs hemming. Stitch the neck facing down and it's done! So far it seems to work pretty well, although I've only tried it on, haven't worn it for any length of time yet. And there should be enough for another dress after this one is done, because I bought a LOT of the purple gabardine when I bought it.
Last night we ran over to Menards to acquire an angle grinder, and I bought a turkey fryer, just the propane burner part, and I have to get the propane tank, still, but now I can do dyeing outside. Cuz I've got a couple of large pots that were cheap. And stainless steel. Yay! And when I got home, books were there, and garden things were there. Yay again!
And now I'm debating what silk to buy, so I can dye it nifty colors and make it into garb. Mmmmmm, silk.
