It's secure during power outages, won't lose time ever. In fact, it doesn't even require electricity at all. No cords, no batteries. You can't just shut it off and sleep through it, but you also don't have to remember to turn the alarm on, either.

OTOH, you do have to provide it with food, water, and a litterbox, and pet it occasionally. Especially if you want it to shut up.
